A small reminder in the middle of the night

Happy new year to everyone..!!! (with australian accent) May this year be a good one, mate!

There goes the last year were It was just the two of us.. :( but here comes the new year full :) of new adventures, new excitements, new lessons, new worries, new hapiness. Hispster-L and I are both looking forward to this year because of the baby arrival. I am so excited and looking forward that the other night I woke up in the middle of the night to empty my bladder, and when I came back to bed I said to Larina, who was somewhat awake: " Ten more weekends! ". It must had been like 2AM when I said those words. At that time it was really twelve weekends but I don't count the weekends that we are busy, just to make the counter shorter :P

Well having said that, seemed to have had a good outcome. Because the day after I said those words, we made very good progress on getting ready for the baby. We made a quick decision on two big items we needed to buy for the baby. We also settle on the closet designed and Hipster-L was really pushy to get things started, unfrotunatly the saw at Home Depot was broken, so no progress there. We looked at the option of hiring Home Depot to do the closet. We also got more organized for the baby shower, filled up the baby registry more and a few other stuff.

This week we are starting with the prenatal classes, they said to bring a doll, but I don't have any dolls yet, this is my first baby, am I supposed to go buy a doll? I think I have to review some of the information they gave us. This week, we are also getting the results of the second glucose test since the first one came back elevated, we a little anxious about the results fo the seconds glucose test. Wish us luck..

Baby tracker changed

Today Hipster-L noticed that our baby was a brown tone, so she requested me to change it to a more ligther colour, unfortunatly the baby tracker that we are using doesn't have any in between colours is either white, brown or darker brown. When I was looking for baby trackers I tried to find with a Chinese baby, but I had no luck. Most of our close friends use the lilypie so I figure I will stay with that one.

Here is the difference between our old baby tracker and our new one.

Preparing the room

For over a few weeks we started looking for idea to decorate the room. We looked around in flickr to see what other people had done, and our inspiration came from two rooms and our diaper bag, which we got down in the Grove City.

The first idea of the room was to paint it with strips, that we knew we wanted. But did we wanted strips from floor to ceeling, or just the bottom half, or the top half? We thought that by having them from floor to ceeling, the room was just going to look like a circus, but we still kept that option open. Our final decision came from looking at the Isabella room.

We already had an idea that we wanted pink, since we are having a little baby girl, we figure pink is appropiate. We first saw a room in pink with brown furniture, but our furniture is white. So we did more research and found lot of rooms made on pink:

Some of the rooms had a mixture of pink and white and brown furniture, so we figure pink and white works. But the final decision on the colours came on our trip to Grove City, when we saw a lot of baby stuff in pink and dark chocolate brown, one example is the diaper bag that we bought which looks similar to this one:

After we had decided on the colours, some friends from work offered to help us. We got organized to do it over one weekend. It is amazing the thigns you can create with some little help and some good friends. Here are the pictures of our new baby room (aka: Nursery)

Mixed identity

Hipster-L has this bananas at home but she is not sure if they are ripe or raw. They have a greenish tone on the tip and on the sides but they have freckles with brown spots like if they are ready to eat. WEIRD!!

For some reason it reminds her of hulk.. like if the bananas were green because they are angry like Hulk!

Let us know your opinion if we should eat them.. or mash them into a banana bread :)

Behind in the schedule?

We are at 22 weeks today. I am sure any schedule out there will tell you that by this time, you should had the baby room painted and have bought some furniture, but whatever the schedules say, this are just guidelines. Wether we follow them or not is up to us, so far we haven't, partially because we have been very careful since we learn from our experience from last year. I do however want to start painting now because I want all the fumes from the paint to be gone by the time the baby is here. The room is ready to be painted and just recently we decided on the colors and bought the paint. I was waiting for our trip to 'Penn' to start painting but I think I might start painting this weekend, since we have it free.

Last weekend we went out with some friends on Sunday, and Lukybee surprised us with cup cakes for everyone, ours had a special baby theme. They are a beutiful piece of work and a yummy treat. It gaves me a lot of feelings to recive them (I know it sounds cheese) but it almost put a tear on my eye. I think the feelings came because it is the first gift that someone gives me because we are having a baby.

Baby Ultrasound pictures

I don't think this much news to the people who read this blog, but I defenetly owe all of the readers to show them the picture of the Ultrasound. So here is one, the rest are in facebook, which you can access by clicking on the picture.

From my previous post you might be able to make out that the sorting of our personal junk is completed. We will soon start painting, well more like 'I will soon' be painting because Larina can't be around for that.

This month we will start looking at possible daycares, and doing research pediatrician, baby room decor. Although I think we are pretty settle on pediatrician and daycare, we are still going to do a little research. Also this month, we are be looking into baby linen, more car research, and will see what else comes up.

Soon we will be three

You have already seen some of the final pictures of our new family room. For the sake of completeness, I am adding the design that we agreed on building originally. The original design was for me to build from scratch, if I was to build it on my own.

The idea of building it on my own was dropped because time became a pressing matter. As most of you know we are pregnant, so the time that I would had spend on building the shelves, now needed to be spend on getting ready for our future family member.

Allow me to summaries the process of getting ready for our baby, for the sake of simplicity I skipped steps:

  1. Make inventory of the junk in the baby room(formally guest room).
  2.
  3. Think what to do with junk in baby room
  4.
  5. Make inventory of the junk in computer room
  6.
  7. Reorganize basement
  8.
  9. Discard 'real junk' and realocate 'junk to be kept' from the computer room into basement
  10.
  11. Move junk from baby room, into computer room or basement
  12.
  13. Move in hand-me-over baby stuff (there is a lot of stuff that I dunno what is used for yet) from our lovely Sister-in-Law to the basement
  14.
  15. Remove closet doors from baby room
  16.
  17. Organize family room

I knew we tend to keep and store junk around, but 'hey!' we had the space so why care. Now things have gotten a little more complicated and we have had to get smarter on what to keep and what to throw. My friend 'the crazy flip' lives in an apartment and he has two kids, I had to ask him how does he manage because I am already finding that the space is getting a lot tighter. When I asked him about how he manages, he told me that he is still sleeping in the couch. At first I thought he was joking but I later realized that he wasn't he is indeed sleeping in the couch, and it has been 6 month since they had their second baby. My mom is going to be visiting when our baby arrives, and she was thinking that we were going to make her sleep in the unfinished basement, is our house really that small?

Here some pictures of Larina's growing belly:

Family room redesign

This saturday we spend sometime adding some furniture to our family room. Our flat panel 42' TV was sitting in a small 21' CRT TV desk :) so we were in need of upgrading the TV desk. In addition to our much needed TV desk our collection of music and movies were just lying on the ground so we also needed a place where to put our CDs.

But winter is around the corner and I might not have the time to build it, so we decided we were in need of a fast solution and afordable. So we grab the local newspaper that comes wtih all the junk mail and we found a perfect solution catalog in IKEA :).

So with the help of Larina's parent we put everything in the car, and came back home and build it. This is what we ended up with:

Ding..ding..ding..ding.ding..ding..ding..ding

On Wednesday we were both working from home and left the car park out in the drive way. At around 3:30, Larina was sleeping and I was focus concentrated about whatever I was doing, when all of the sudden I jump out of my seat and all I hear is ding..ding..ding..ding.ding..ding..ding..ding.. from the door bell. I then went down stairs and my way down I was already thinking I know this is probably going to be kids and there wasn't going to be anyone at the door, and effectvily when I got to the door noone, far on the distance I see some kid swalking.

I was a little upset because I thought they had woken up Larina, that day she wasn't feeling well, but aparently she can sleep through an earthquake. Anyways..I went out to my server and I found a picture of the kid, and a pretty good one of his face. I am debating if I should print out and put it out on as a warning for the kids.. or just to watch what they do.. :P, it would be an interesting social experiment.

Family room wall shelf

The entire summer I have been wanting to get started witht his project but our lives have been so busy this summer that I haven't been able to get started. So behold... this is the beginging of my wall shelving unit for the family room.
This image shows you from a birds eye view how it would look from the top, I haven't decided what design to go with so feel free to provide input. The dotted line in the image is represnts where wall ends.

This second image shows a estimate of how many shelf units I can fit, there is a hole in the middle of the shelfs because that is where the TV is going.

A brief downtown visit

Today we went downtown for some appoientment that I had. We eat at this CityView place on the 8th floor of 'The Bay' Building..it was a nice place.. I wish I would had know of it when I was living and working in downtown.. :( oh well.

This summer has been very busy, almost all the weekends after our trip have been filled with stuff todo. we have two upcoming weddings and we have had parties to attend and stuff like that. I also bought a new computer and I have been setting it up to replace the old server that host my website. Computer stuff is my work and my hobbie so I enjoy buying technology and moving up to the latest and greatest.

I think that buying a brand new computer and moving your information from one computer to another is like moving houses. You have to pack everything in boxes get organized of what you want to move and then start moving.. and you are always afraid that things are left behind. Yet I am not sure where I find the fun on doing this exercise every so often.. :)

Back at home..

We are happy to be back, well I am :). We are now organizing the house. After our abscense of two weeks things are a little overgrown: the grass, the mail, and we are also working on clothing to clean and all of that.. more on our trip later.

Free Internet was not easy to be found.. so we couldn't blog as we were going. We didn't want to spend too much time with a computer since we wanted to see as much as possible.

Here is a a picture that I took with my iPhone while we were at the Louvre

Ahh Summer..

This weekend we had Opening day for Our Tennis Club, it was supposed to happen on Saturday, but due to rain it got moved to Sunday.

We were the ones running the event so we had to get people organized to not come on Saturday and arrange who could volunteer for Sunday.

For us it was easy enough to workaround and change our plans from Sunday to Saturday. So we visted my Brother and Larina's parents. We had a nice time dinning with her parents and Uncle Peter, we learn about some funny stories from the past.

Sunday ended being pretty good, and quite a bit of people showed up for our Tennis Openning Day. More than what I expected to tell you to the truth. Things felt a little hectic because we have never attended the event, and now were ORGANIZING IT!!! crazy.. but everything wen't pretty well. We had a speed gun, mini nets for the little little ones, a Cardio Tennis Tennis Drill, the Ball Machine. All in all it was a bit of work to get it ready, but it people were very gratefull and happy because they had fun.

During the event, we played a bit of tennis, and after that we came home pretty tired. I still managed to get some energy to put the Hammock stand and Larina did some clothing. Later she went to sleep and I folded the clothing, while watching the Truman Show.

iPhone love coming to canada..

So yes. It is official that the iPhone will be comming to Canada.. FINALLY!! IS ABOUT TIME!!! so that is the good news.. the bad news (just going by rumours) is that I think they will be comming out with the 3G phone.. :(.. so the question is to sell or not to sell.. :P I have been asking that question for sometime already.. because I have heard the rumours that the 3G iPhone is comming out..

Reality is that I am in love with my iPhone and I am becoming a bit of a mac lover :). They really think things out.. today and a few times before.. I have recived calls while I am listening to music and what would you think it happens when you get a call? well that is exactly what happens the music fades out you hear the ring, you answer the call by pressing a button on my earbuds, and when I hang up then the music fades in again. So simple.. so smart.. so easy to do.. Excellent feature.. :) Well thought out..

I can only imagine how this 3G iPhone is going to be.. if this one blows me away.. what is the next one going to do..? teleporting..?

The point is that the features of the new one.. will need to be very very good in order for current iPhone owner to move up to the new one.
